Cookery Lessons

Nell’s love of food and cooking is infectious and she thrives on introducing people to new cooking skills and food experiences. Nell teaches two popular evening classes as part of the Edinburgh Council Adult Education Programme; Vegetarian where veggies and non veggies learn to cook with nutritious and delicious grains such as quinoa and turn it into a more-ish supper dish with roasted red peppers and molten mozzarella or a chocolate beetroot cake and South East Asian cooking where students enjoy a ten-week whirlwind eating trip through the subcontinent recreating Indonesian beef rendang, Thai green curry and Burmese noodle soup.

Nell also believes cooking can also be very therapeutic and runs cooking classes for Outlook which is an Edinburgh-based project which enables adults who use mental health services in Edinburgh to take up a variety of educational opportunities. Nell cooks a meal in front of the class, the students then recreate their own dish, wash up then all eat together as part of a confidence and skill building exercise. These regular classes have been very popular and helpful and students have gained confidence and pleasure from learning to cook their own version of leek and potato soup and soda bread and by the end of the course making fresh Vietnamese spring rolls for friends and family.
