The Woman Who Ate Scotland

After completing her cycle trip from Hong Kong
to Sydney, Nell returned to Scotland, sure that her own country
would have a rich seam of wonderful local produce, scenery and equally
passionate producers and chefs. Nell pitched the concept of The
Woman Who Ate Scotland with Nell as presenter; cycling, eating and
cooking her way round Scotland to production company Tern Television
and STV.
The first eight part series was screened on STV in April May 2006
and in UKTV Food Channel on August 2006. Nell transported her audience
from the delights of deluxe raspberry and cream porridge and traditional
lamb curry from the mosque in Edinburgh to succulent Arbroath smokies
smoked over logs on the beach and sticky toffee pudding on the Caledonian
Canal. The winning formula of eating, drinking, cycling and scenery
won the hearts of almost 500,000 Scottish viewers on a weekly basis.
The Woman Who Ate Scotland went on to become one of STV’s
most highly rated television programmes.
A second series was immediately re-commissioned and was screened
in early summer of 2007 and also shown on UKTV Food in September
2007. During the second series, an average of 20 % of people watching
television in Scotland were watching The Woman Who Ate Scotland.
Both series were repeated on STV in the evening in the summer of
2008. The series has also been screened on the Asia Food Channel
and Lifestyle TV in Australia and New Zealand.
Nell is keen to make another cycling eating programme and in 2010
cycled 1000km round Cuba sampling rice, beans and rum.
